Art and culture / Gallery opening
Kate Keery’s painted memories come to the Hoxton tonight
The Brooklyn painter’s opening begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, with a free evening in the Wythe Avenue lobby.
Kate Keery’s Hox Gallery opening takes place Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. in the lobby of The Hoxton, Williamsburg, 97 Wythe Ave. The hotel lists the event as free and provides an RSVP link on its official page.

Keery works in oil and starts with photographs that already carry a life beyond the frame. Her artist statement describes recent film pictures alongside family images from the 1990s. Those sources give a viewer a useful way into the paintings: look for the gesture or patch of light that seems too specific to have been invented for a grand occasion.
The Hoxton’s announcement photograph places Keery in front of her work. Behind her, a figure stands in pale water while the neighboring canvas lets a dark green landscape dissolve toward an orange sky. The contrast between a person you can locate and a place that feels less fixed makes the image worth lingering over.
A lobby opening asks for a different kind of attention than a silent gallery visit. Start with one painting before looking for the person you came to meet. Ask yourself what seems remembered, what seems observed and where the light pulls you first. You do not need the artist’s family album to notice how a scene holds a mood.
The published 7 p.m. time is for the opening party. An exhibition closing date and later viewing schedule are not listed on the event page. Use the hotel’s current listing for the RSVP and check with the venue before planning a visit on another day.
