Film and neighborhood life / Cinema plans

Williamsburg’s Halloween plans have a matinee option

A comedy before lunch, a carnival after midnight or Irish folklore on a Tuesday. Pick the screening that fits your actual life.

Nitehawk Williamsburg has several ways into Halloween week at 136 Metropolitan Ave. The calendar lists Young Frankenstein on Oct. 24 and 25, The Funhouse late on Oct. 23 and Fréwaka on Oct. 27. These are separate screenings, so choose a date and book the matching Williamsburg listing.

Start with the least complicated group chat question: what time does everyone want to be awake? Young Frankenstein is listed at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24 and 25. A comedy in daylight leaves the afternoon open and makes a useful alternative for friends who want a seasonal movie without committing their entire Saturday night. Check the film’s rating and the cinema’s admission rules before treating a daytime slot as a family plan.

The Funhouse takes the opposite approach. Nitehawk lists Friday, Oct. 23, at 11:55 p.m. for seating, with the movie beginning after midnight. That distinction matters when sending a calendar invitation: head out on Friday night, even though much of the screening falls on Saturday. Tobe Hooper’s 1981 film runs 96 minutes. Make the trip home part of the plan before you settle into the late hour.

For a weekday choice, The Future of Film is Female presents Aislinn Clarke’s Fréwaka on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6:45 p.m. The listing includes a prerecorded introduction by the filmmaker. It is an introduction on screen, rather than a promise of an appearance in the room. The 103 minute film offers a more focused appointment for anyone whose weekend is already spoken for.

Choose one screening before choosing the rest of the outing. A matinee can lead into a loose afternoon; a late show needs a little breathing room beforehand. Trying to turn every movie into dinner, drinks and another stop is how a perfectly manageable local plan becomes a production. Agree on the title and time, buy the tickets together and let that be enough.

Use the official film or calendar pages for current ticket prices, seats and any schedule changes. The listings establish the announced program, not a guarantee of remaining availability. Check that the ticket says Williamsburg: the Metropolitan Avenue address is the one for these plans.
