Williamsburgh Library has a Tuesday for every kind of neighbor

Crafts for kids, practical learning for adults and a community meeting all share one very busy day at the Division Avenue branch.

By The Edit: North Brooklyn · Oct. 26, 2026

Williamsburgh Library has five public programs scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27, beginning at 1 p.m. and ending with a Friends of the Library meeting at 6:30 p.m. The branch calendar makes a surprisingly good case for keeping the whole afternoon local.

Grab and Go Crafts begins at 1 p.m. At 3 p.m., children ages 3 and older can make slime with colors, glitter and other additions. Brooklyn Public Library lists the slime program through 4 p.m. and credits Carnegie Corporation of New York support.

The room changes again at 4 p.m. for a bilingual quilting class. Citizenship Exam Prep follows at 5:30 p.m. These are separate programs, so use the official event calendar to confirm age guidance, registration details and any room change before arriving.

At 6:30 p.m., the Friends of Williamsburgh Library meets for an hour. The group invites ideas for improving the branch and help with advocacy, fundraising and future events. The official listing says everyone is welcome, while an RSVP is optional but helpful.

The schedule is a reminder that a neighborhood library is not one experience. It can be a craft table, a classroom, a civic room and a quiet place to wait between plans, sometimes before dinner on the same Tuesday.

The building deserves a look, too. Brooklyn Public Library describes the 26,000 square foot branch as one of its largest. Its classical revival plan opens like a book, with two wings reaching from a central atrium, and the city designated it a landmark in 2006.

Williamsburgh Library is at 240 Division Ave. at Marcy Avenue. All five programs appear on the branch calendar as of Oct. 26. Check that page shortly before traveling because public schedules can change.
