Havemeyer Street is getting a Tamil dinner
Chef Rasika Venkatesa opens Mythily on Sept. 30, bringing the South Indian project from pop ups to a permanent Williamsburg room.
Mythily is scheduled to open Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 129 Havemeyer St. in Williamsburg. Chef Rasika Venkatesa is turning the South Indian project she developed through pop ups and a Greenpoint residency into a permanent restaurant named for her grandmother.

The menu centers Tamil cooking and the flavors Venkatesa grew up with in Chennai. Eater reports dishes that include scallop crudo with puli inji, roasted cabbage with sorrel and coconut chutney, and chicken ballotine with stir fried lentils. This is an opening report, so the current menu should be confirmed through the restaurant before a dedicated visit.
The room is nearly 40 seats, which is exactly the kind of scale that makes opening week feel exciting and slightly competitive. Reservations are offered through SevenRooms, according to Eater, while some bar and counter seating is planned for walk ins. Check the current booking page rather than assuming a walk in seat will be available.
There is a good Williamsburg evening hiding here. Choose dinner as the main plan, keep the group small and let one room do the work. The restaurant is scheduled to serve Wednesday through Sunday, but verify the current hours and opening status before setting out during the first week.
Mythily has already had a North Brooklyn prelude through Venkatesa’s collaboration at Arthur in Greenpoint. Sept. 30 is the next chapter: a permanent address, a compact room and a menu with a clear sense of home. Havemeyer Street has a new dinner to watch.
